Hi,

this is Prudi back again. Just woke up - must have fallen asleep half way through the Vuelta. ::)

OK - worlds coming up? Who will it be? Its cucial to have the winner in your team - 100 points. Its almost impossible to win the game without the winner even if you have the other nine places right.

Before you get too patriotic - look at the past winners and podium list. Its a good chance that the winner will come from Italy, Spain or Germany. But then, you never now - the stars might watch each other too much and a no-name might do it - like Lance Armstrong did in 1993.

If you choose you team sooner watch out - the full list is "over-full" - its the first selection and not all of these riders will start the race. The short list is a better guess. I try to stay up to date but there is not much coming at this stage, even the "official" UCI start list is dated 21/09/2007. Not a surprise though - what do you excpect from UCI regarding speedy processes......

The German list is updated and complete.

The most prominent non-starters to date are:

Tom Boonen, Daniele Bennati.

Beligans Devolder and Leukemans will start after being unsure.

If you know more than me please share in this thread. Feel free to spread your wisdom about who will win and the dark horses. Newcomers and Hollways will be happy to copy.

Add info I missed

Wow, interesting news:

Valverde is cleared for the Worlds - he won the court case. I expect him to give everything and win just to show them. I also expect that his involvement in Puerto will finally be proofed by, say 2019, and he will then be stripped of the rainbow jersey again. But by then he will be a multi-millionaire, retired and doesn't give a sh.....

Now the trouble start with Bettini - what a mess is cycling in? I can see it is difficult - to get rid of doping which is part of professional cycling since it exists - that is a huge task. It needs a massive effort and UCI is trying hard - but I can also see the riders side - it looks like their rights are treated very badly e.g. assumed guilty before there is proof (that doesn't sound right either)....this will go on for another few years..

Alse expect some fanatic German spectators to throw themselves in front of Valverdes wheel on the finishing staight, dressed up as human syringes......

And the Tour of America is coming !!! Of course, it will be bigger and more expensive than anything else seen before. 6000 km, coast to coast. I am in two minds about that. It is sort of exciting but I am also worried that the Americans mess too much with the traditions of cycling and turn the sport into an artifical big-money disneyworld showpiece that is soulless. What do you guys think about all this?

Ohhh what a mess this is - maybe one day they all come back to cycling. The City of Stuttgart taking UCI to court over Bettini starting? The Germans just completly overdo it - in my opinion. They have all the signs of someone being on a "mission" - that's always dangerous and out of proportion.

Look at the name of the lady behind all this - Stuttgarts Sports Minister Eisenman - that means "Ironman" - and she's a woman. She really acts according to her name but I feel embarrassed (as a German) for their tactless anal rigid behaviour - offending the whole world by excluding former great championns from the race.

Anyway - the latest news is the Danilo de Luca "The Killer" is out of the race. Bettini still unsure.

Pat McQrazed and the rest of the UCI bunglers should be thanked for always keeping cycling interesting. And hats off to the Ironwoman Mayor of Stuttgart for standing up to the dodgy druggies, er no mention of an injunction because Zabel is on the start line. She's also banned Eddy Merckx from Stuttgart!!...she's so crazy she should be on the UCI. By the way Ironwoman is also Maryan Hary's nickname.

Latest is UCI have guaranteed that Bettini can start. So expect him to miss the race. Picking the winner of the Worlds is tough enough at the best of times but now its more exciting than Lotto. I will go and pick my team now. I'll start with Di Luca, Merckx and Rasmussen...
